Marketplace Janitorial Supervisor

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and participating in all janitorial operations at the SVRC Marketplace. This working supervisor position ensures high standards of cleanliness, safety, and orderliness by directly engaging in cleaning tasks while also supervising a team of janitorial staff. The Janitorial Supervisor coordinates daily workflows, maintains supply inventories, ensures compliance with safety protocols, and contributes to a welcoming environment for staff, tenants, clients, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Supervision & Leadership:

• Provide daily supervision of janitorial staff, including task assignment, scheduling, and on-the-job coaching.
• Monitor and inspect work quality to ensure cleanliness standards and agency protocols are met.
• Train team members in proper cleaning techniques, safety practices, and use of equipment.
• Lead by example by participating directly in cleaning tasks, especially during high-volume periods or staff absences.
• Serve as a liaison between janitorial staff and Marketplace management, addressing concerns and communicating updates.

Active Janitorial Participation:

• Perform regular cleaning duties including, but not limited to:
  • • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and floor care (manual and machine-based)
    • Cleaning restrooms, kitchens, common areas, and office spaces
    • Trash collection and disposal (interior and exterior)
    • Replenishing supplies such as soap, paper products, and sanitizer
    • Cleaning windows, walls, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces
• Respond to immediate cleaning needs such as spills, biohazards, or restroom emergencies, using universal precautions.
• Support setup and teardown of event spaces as needed in collaboration with the event staff.

Facility Cleanliness Oversight:

• Conduct walkthroughs to ensure all facility (inside and outside) areas are cleaned according to schedule.
• Monitor supply inventory and reorder items to prevent shortages.
• Ensure proper care and maintenance of janitorial tools and equipment.
• Report facility maintenance needs to the Marketplace Director promptly.

Safety & Compliance:

• Enforce safety standards, PPE use, and compliance with OSHA regulations among janitorial team.
• Maintain records related to inspections, supply use, and incident reports.
• Participate in and promote agency-wide safety initiatives and emergency preparedness drills

Operational Efficiency:

• Assist in developing and updating janitorial schedules and task lists based on operational needs and event schedules.
• Coordinate janitorial support for special events, including setup, cleaning, and teardown needs.
• Evaluate janitorial processes and suggest improvements for efficiency and effectiveness.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3 years of janitorial or custodial experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team lead role.
• Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, supplies, and OSHA safety standards.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent cleaning issues promptly.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
• Must pass background check, drug screening, and employment physical as required by the agency
