Fleet Mechanic

Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) serves Franklin County and neighboring areas with solutions for solid waste. SWACO provides consumers recycling opportunities around Franklin County at our recycling drop off-locations. Our Mechanics performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks including, but not limited to, chassis components; refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic, and electrical systems; air brake systems; general engine work; HVAC components; and suspension, drive train and steering systems.  PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: •Perform on-going inspection and daily preventive maintenance activities on all mechanical, electrical, and rolling equipment. Observe operation of machines, vehicles, and all mechanical and electrical equipment for potential problems. •Respond to requests relating to service calls and maintenance needs/problems in a timely and professional manner and troubleshoot equipment as referred by work orders or verbal directives and determine necessary repairs while performing such work as is feasible and appropriate. •Review operator’s daily inspection reports and maintain accurate records of maintenance on all machinery, vehicles, and equipment. •Utilize a variety of mechanical, welding and machinist tools to fabricate, rebuild, and repair equipment and parts. •Periodically test start-up and performance of all machinery, vehicles and equipment while maintaining a clean and organized garage, and fabricate, assemble, and install special structures and equipment.  Rewarding Compensation and Benefits •$5000 sign-on Bonus •Annual Tool Allowance  •Comprehensive medical benefits coverage, dental plans, and vision coverage (Traditional PPO with low Benefits). •Short- and long-term disability. •Life insurance and accidental death & dismemberment insurance. •OPERS-State Retirement Pension-Company match 14% •Paid Holidays •Personal, sick and vacation days •Tuition reimbursement •Employee Assistance Program •Thrive On wellness Program  •Company purchased PPE  •Paid lunch times  •Work Phones Provided   EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE •High school diploma or GED required. •Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations relating to proper maintenance and operation of commercial vehicles. •Valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License and Department of Transportation Medical Card is required.      Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio is an equal opportunity employer #zr        The above statements are intended to describe essential functions and related requirements of person(s) assigned to this job.  They are not intended as an exhaustive list of all job duties, responsibilities, and requirements.
