What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Places various, regular orders within the Grocery, Produce, Meat, Dairy and Flowers/Plants categories via internal and external vendors
- Communicates all orders to vendors by deadlines; negotiates with vendors to secure optimal pricing, quantities, and discounts
- Works closely with both Food Hub and Buying departments to ensure clear communication on product availability and other inventory/ordering considerations
- Places orders with our Food Hub using the Local Food Marketplace software (LFM)
- Regularly interfaces with Square POS system to input new items, update pricing and cost, verify inventory and margins, etc.
- Uses sales and cost of goods reports to support ordering and merchandising decisions
- Analyzes sales data and category performance, implements strategies to maximize protability and meet sales targets
- Regularly reacts to and eliminates underperforming products
- Engages in several reporting functions utilizing spreadsheets and other reporting tools
- Has inventory responsibilities such as but not limited to: performing weekly counts of relevant category backstock, comparing ordered varieties and quantities to deliveries, and performing quality checks of incoming orders
- Regularly communicates with in-store department managers and purchasers regarding delivery schedules and any logistical or availability issues
- Follows up on claims, discrepancies, quality issues, and shorted items to ensure we receive appropriate credits or replacements
- Participates in regular inventory counts and investigates any discrepancies identied
- Complies to and ensures compliance of all related food safety, health & sanitation regulations, workplace safety, and weights and measures according to SCDHEC, other applicable laws and company policies and regulations as necessary.
- Finds efficent use for downtime
- Assists fellow employees as needed
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- 1 years of buying/procurement required
- Merchandising and customer service experience is a plus
Must be available Monday through Friday, occasional weekends and evenings as needed Must have a high school diploma
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the Swamp driving policy Is an active part of the Swamp Team so adheres to high standards of service, quality, and presentation and displays the Swamp Core Values
- Must have a good working knowledge of Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs) and Microsoft Excel and be willing to learn and use the Entrepreneurial Operating System
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the Swamp driving policy Must communicate through company designated platforms including, but not limited to Slack, Paylocity, and email.
- Is an active part of the Swamp Team so adheres to high standards of service, quality, and presentation
- Take initiative to help any area of the business if possible

PAY AND BENEFITS
- Pay starts at $20.00 per hour based on experience
- 40 hours per week
