This role is responsible for developing and nurturing strong relationships with carriers to ensure high levels of service and collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate regularly with carriers to manage shipment assignments, resolve issues, and ensure timely deliveries
- Solicit rates and bids from carriers, negotiating pricing and service terms to maximize profitability and align with company objectives
- Manage and updates shipments within the company’s TMS to ensure accurate tracking and timely execution
- Make daily calls to carriers to cover available loads, ensuring that all customer requirements are met
- Resolve any issues throughout the life cycle of a shipment promptly, keeping both carrier and customers informed
- Ensure all shipments are covered per customer requirements and that any changes are communicated effectively
- Regularly assess carrier performance to ensure service standards are met, including on-time delivery and communication efficiency
- Enter timely status updates in the system to provide accurate, real-time information regarding shipment bookings, delivery statuses, and any delays
- Set strategic shipment alarms to minimize missed appointments, proactively addressing potential issues before they arise
- Act as a liaison between drivers, dispatchers, and customers to provide updates and directions as needed
- Support other representatives or managers as needed to ensure smooth operations and meet team goals
- Work closely with internal teams to align strategies and business objectives
- Maximize margins for each shipment through effective negotiation and an understanding of market conditions
- Continuously identify opportunities to optimize the transportation process, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs
- Occasionally work evenings and/or weekends, as needed, to assist customers and address time-sensitive issues throughout the life cycle of a shipment
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, or two years of relevant industry experience
- Great phone communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to negotiate and foster relationships
- General knowledge of transportation and ability to learn quickly
- Good computer skills
- Attention to details and strong follow-up skills
- Ability to make decisions based on market conditions
