What are the responsibilities and job description for the Country Lead- Decarbonization (Global) position at Swaniti Global?
About the Organization:
Swaniti Initiative is an ecosystem builder working toward a sustainable future in a climate constrained world. It has a strong legacy of working of supporting Parliamentarians and sub-national governments on designing and delivering interventions that respond to the climate crisis. Recently, Swaniti has been increasingly engaging with the private sector in textile, cement and steel in order to decarbonize industries. Accordingly, Swaniti is actively looking toward a Global Lead who can support in its ambitions.
Swaniti has been working across the global south to bridge the policy gap between industry and government that will fast track energy transition processes. We have conducted in depth mapping at a sub national level to understand the drivers toward large scale transition. Whether it is crystallizing the financial case for energy transition or unlocking climate finance for MSMEs in hard to abate industries, Swaniti has been working with industry associations to overcome them.
Through our work we have come to believe that while there is significant interest amongst industry and government to decarbonize, there aren’t clear pathways and support mechanisms to enable this shift quickly. Accordingly, Swaniti is keen to conduct a deeper dive and understand how best we can ensure an inclusive an impactful industrial decarbonization for hard to abate sectors.
The Global South decarbonization lead will help is focus on working with these sectors in order bring sustainable policy changes in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia and South Africa. The position lead will help translate research insights in to policy tools for government practitioners.
Job Summary:
The Global South Decarbonization Lead will be working across geographies in order to support policy practitioners (in government and across industry associations) to understand the current gaps in supporting hard to abate industries in decarbonization and subsequently work with them to design policy intervention for large scale impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Working with senior management to strategically develop decarbonization programs for textile, cement and steel industries. Core areas of work would include-
Qualifications and Skills:
Education. Master’s or higher degree in Public Policy, climate, energy transition, and decarbonization strongly preferred. Experience. 10 years of experience in climate and energy transition space. Experience of working with governments and industry associations strongly preferred. Communications. Demonstrated experience in writing and verbal skills through previous reports, presentations etc. Team management. History of managing teams and delivering around programs. Skills:

Working with senior management to strategically develop decarbonization programs for textile, cement and steel industries. Core areas of work would include-
- Collaborating and developing key partnership with subnational and national government departments to map out the current policy ecosystem and understand where there are gaps and opportunities.
- Connecting with industry bodies and leaders to get their perspective about where there are policy gaps and policy interventions that can help overcome these gaps.
- Iterating and improving on strategic frameworks for how to best engage with subnational governments, national governments, private sector players and civil society partners to enable energy transition.
- Support in setting up high level discussions and roundtables to disseminate findings from study and initiate policy discussion.
- Develop reports, papers and additional materials on strategic interventions for governments across the global south.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of programs on ground and work on course correction, where needed
- Represent the organization in workshops, meetings, and other platforms, contributing to discussions on energy transition and just transition planning.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Leadership and management skills in decarbonization of industry. Previous experience in a similar field is strongly preferred.
- Past research experience combined with engagement of policymakers will be seen favorably.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong resonance with government and industry association a strong advantage.
- This position is a global position.
