Position Title: Green Chain Puller
Reports to: Veneer Supervisor
Department: Green Veneer
Hours per shift: 10 hours per day with 3 ten-minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch. Saturday’s and overtime frequently required. 5:30am – 4pm.
Management reserves the right to change hours/days to accommodate safety and production needs.
Wage: Level 3
Position Purpose: To accurately and safely grade, remove and neatly stack all useable green veneer as it comes down the conveyor.
Position Functions:
Essential Functions*
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.
Identify the quality of wood coming off the veneer line, remove quality veneer and organize placement of veneer into appropriate carts to level the loads.
Perform constant clean up and removal of veneer debris and wood chunks which build up along the green chain.
Keep up with the expected production target, while maintaining safety and quality standards as outlined in the Job Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, and other requirements as directed by the supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
Veneer green chain puller determines grade of green veneer as specified by company standards
Veneer chain puller pulls green veneer sheets which are fed onto a conveyor and places in proper carts according to grade and dimension
Organize veneer sheets carefully into veneer carts, leveling loads for proper storage and better utilization through the drying process
Maintain a clean work area, monitoring debris build-up and remove/sweep area.
Monitor and assist with plug-ups on the belt lines to remove stuck veneer sheets.
Adjust veneer carts to set-up sizes for changeovers.
Observe the line for malfunctions, report to maintenance when problems are identified.
Push/pull carts of veneer (weighing 60 lbs) out from the line for removal by forklift.
Monitor haul back chain for plug ups.
Observe veneer on green chain for quality and notify supervisor of any concerns regarding quality.
Non-Essential Functions
These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.
The worker/Operator may be responsible for cleanup activity during down times, changeovers, or after the shift ends.
The worker may be required to rotate to different positions for cross-training purposes or to facilitate production. Job duties for other positions are outlined in their individual Job Descriptions.
Assist co-workers or Maintenance personnel in basic maintenance procedures.
Working Environment: (1) Inside 100%, average temperature 60 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. (2) Outside 0%. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves when handling dry veneer. (4) Approved Footwear.
Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, bilateral use of arms and hands, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.
Skills: Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.
