Coding Specialist - Coding and Abstract - Inpatient
100% Remote Position
While you DO NOT need to live in WA state for this role, Swedish cannot currently support remote applicants living in CO, NY, PA, MA, OH or HI.
SCHEDULE: (1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week). EXEMPT, Day shift, Monday-Friday. Hours are flexible but Caregivers can start work as early as 4am PST if desired.
Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes on inpatient and outpatient cases using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems, assigns DRGs using the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and All Patient groupers and abstracts data for statistical, reimbursement and regulatory requirements. The Coding Specialist also ensures coding compliance by applying all coding principles and guidelines as defined in the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, Swedish Medical Center policies and other leading authorities. As a primary member of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program (CDIP) Team assures that charts are coded to reflect the level of service provided. The CDIP Team is a triad that includes clinical documentation specialists, coders and physicians. Daily interaction and negotiation with team members is required.
Required qualifications:
- Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Procedural Coder Hospital (CPC-H), or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) - (If not certified or registered at time of employment working on obtaining certification upon hire or registration highly preferred)
- 3 years ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience performing hospital-based inpatient and outpatient coding.
- 3 months demonstrated proficiency in a concurrent medical record review program that emphasizes partnering between clinical documentation specialists and coding.
Preferred qualifications:
- Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or Completion of a certified coding program and three years related experience. Will consider applicants with relevant experience and applicable education
