Full Time (36 Hour Week)
Night Shift
12 Hour Shifts
A member of the Patient Care Services team the TeleICU Telemetry Technician functions to provide continuous close monitoring for behavioral management or protective management observation. Patients may require observation for patient behaviors/disorders, medical conditions, falls risks and or special needs.
The TeleICU Telemetry Technician is responsible for continuously monitoring patients from a remote workstation located in the TeleICU Clinical Operations Room (COR). One type of monitoring will be conducted at a time: 1) TeleICU Telemetry Technician monitoring via telemetry of pulse oxygen saturation (Sp02) levels, or 2) monitoring via visual observation for patient safety behaviors through continuous video. Additionally, the TeleICU Telemetry Technician provides clerical support to the workflows of the TeleICU clinical staff (Monitor Technician II, eMD and eRN) as assigned.
The TeleICU Telemetry Technician works under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

General Customer Service
- Works with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff to identify needs, resolve problems or provide other information. Answers and triages phone calls to the TeleICU Team: MT, eMD, eRN. May assist in answering eLert calls from the ICUs when clinicians are actively consulting. Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff. Communicates with hospital staff and responds quickly to patient behavioral changes.
New Admissions, Transfer & Discharge (ADT) Activities in Monitoring System
- Ensures updated ADT data is entered into monitoring systems. Ensures continuous trending or video streaming for assigned monitored beds or devices in the system at all times by utilizing unit guidelines for alarm parameter and safety criteria notification and escalation with appropriate communication tool.
- Collaborates with the nurse and other team members to organize and prioritize functions necessary for patient admission and care delivery.
- Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
Electronic Medical Record EMR
- Proficient in reviewing EMR to obtain additional information needed for job duties such as ADT, patient name, campus, room location, nursing assignment, etc.
Environment of Care & Regulatory Readiness
- Follows department regulatory standards i.e. keeps hallways clear, workstation and equipment plugged in and functioning. Keep work area clean and clutter free.
- Participates in system-wide emergency situations as directed.
- Actively participates in the unit, department and system-wide educational activities including Quality Improvement and safety programs as appropriate.
Other Duties
- Ensures and communicates with the bedsides staff that patient identifiers are used to assign device upon initiation/discontinuation of patient monitoring. Admit, discharge and document assignment information: patient name, room number, campus, monitor/device number, communication device (pager, cell phone, on-person audio device, etc.), and RN assigned to patient on TeleICU forms and patient log. Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on the unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
- Validates alarm parameter settings and adjusts according to unit protocol. Ensures alarms are assigned to the correct devices as applicable. (pagers, devices). Responds appropriately and timely to alarm and safety notifications. Prioritizes simultaneous situations and remaining alert at all times while on duty. Adheres to emergency policies and procedures associated with patient care. Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department culture of safety initiatives.
- Validates patient assignment information is correct during hand-offs such as the beginning of each shift, coverage for breaks and at the nursing units change of shift.
- Gives report to relief staff, including items that require follow up. Prepares and updates patient worksheets for the following shift. Assigns and sets up pagers and/or monitoring equipment appropriately. Maintains unit worksheets and records.
- Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to charge RN. Reports and escalates unresolved patient safety monitoring issues to the appropriate stakeholders, including quality variance reports.
- Communicates, troubleshoots and escalates monitoring issues with the bedside caregivers and other hospital departments regarding concerns with faulty equipment, work orders or other issues. For example low battery, loss of signal or disconnection from the monitoring network, equipment issues, etc.
Required qualifications:
- National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
- 6 months acute care experience or one year of skilled nursing experience as a nurse assistant certified (NAC) or license practical nurse, nurse technician.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience using electronic medical record.
- Experience as a MT.
