Summary/Objective:

The Resident Care Attendant must possess a sincere passion for working with seniors, as well as have demonstrated knowledge of caregiving in a senior living community or be willing to learn. The RCA provides hands-on assistance with the daily care needs of the residents including personal needs, grooming and hygiene, housekeeping, laundering, social interactions, and meals. Additionally, the RCA is responsible for routinely monitoring the residents comfort and responding to periodic needs.

Essential Functions:

Must be able/willing to perform the following duties, including, but not limited to:

  • The completion of the daily shift report and communicating directly to the next shift any urgent needs
  • Daily documentation in resident records to include completion of task sheets.
  • The ability to manage assigned tasks within the scheduled shift
  • Proficiency in meeting the physical and social needs of the resident
  • Assist or supervise residents with scheduled and PRN (as needed) medications including documentation of same and assuring resident has ongoing supply of routine medications by keeping inventory and ordering as necessary.
  • Keeping all work areas tidy and clean, including performing Infection Control (IC) Sweeps when announced.
  • Drive facility vehicles as needed for resident appointments and/or errands
  • Assist residents with ADLs (activities of daily living) such as showering, toileting, dressing and grooming as needed
  • Assist with some light housekeeping tasks as assigned and as needed.
  • Familiarizes self with facility and hospital required orientation and training and completes in a timely manner
  • Keeping up with infection control procedures and state regulations
  • Attends all mandatory staff meetings

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment:

This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, housekeeping equipment, and motorized vehicles including handicap accessible equipment. This position may use medical monitoring equipment such as automatic vital sign monitors, and other equipment as needed. May be exposed to ill residents, blood and other resident elements when caring for elderly residents, and an occasional small pet. This position is also exposed to the outside environment due to transporting residents from one location to another as needed in a vehicle, wheelchair or other means as needed.

Physical Demands:

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, turn, stretch, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Manual dexterity and physical strength required to handle equipment or motor vehicles. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Visual and audio acuity necessary to detect changes in conditions of residents. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education, Experience and License

Valid Texas Driver License with an acceptable record

Must be current with BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR and AED training or able to obtain and maintain the training within the first 90 days of employment

Preferred Education, Experience and License

At least one year of experience working with the elderly in a residential setting

High School diploma or GED preferred

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Willingness and desire to work with the elderly and the willingness to develop and gain knowledge in this field

Good oral and written communication skills

Travel

Frequent local travel is expected for this position due to transporting residents to various destinations as needed in the area.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and shifts are 12 - 13 hours. Days/Nights are worked on a rotating schedule requiring holidays and at least every other weekend with overtime as needed. Position requires work schedule flexibility based on needs of the facility.
