Cafe/Sales Associate

General Description

This position will be responsible for customer service, handling transactions (cashier), food handling, taking orders (in store, phone, grub hub), food and beverage preparation, cafe general upkeep (dishwashing, cleaning, etc.), rotating chocolate and maintaining correct inventory of cupcakes, cookies and ice cream.

General Qualifications and Requirements

• Previous Customer Service, Food Service, or Sales experience is preferred
• Foodhandler Certificate Required (this may be completed during training if needed)

The qualified candidate will have the ability to adapt quickly and handle a fast-paced environment. The ability to work efficiently, effectively, and with the highest levels of quality in attention to detail, diligent work ethic, and a positive and friendly demeanor are all key components to this role.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Cashier and additional service(s)

• Always greet customers with a friendly smile and greeting as they approach the counter even if they are not yet ready to order, simply to acknowledge that you are ready to answer questions and take their order when they are ready.
• Collect cash, and credit card payments from customers.
• Issue receipts to customers.
• Maintain cash control over register drawer and verify amounts are correct.
• Answer customer questions as they arise.
• Check all displays for cleanliness and organization.
• Never leave the cash drawer open unattended.
• If you cannot get to a customer right away always mention to them that you will be right with them as soon as possible.
• Utilize opening and closing checklist(s)
• Periodically check bathrooms for cleanliness.
• Clean and sanitize indoor tables and chairs immediately
• Ensure overall cleanliness of the cafe.
• Assists in food preparation and any other duties set forth or requested by management as needed.
• The ability to lift and maintain up to 50lbs.

Coffee and beverage preparation

• Keep counters free of grounds and spills at all times.
• Always empty and rinse steamed milk cup immediately after making drinks in preparation for the next order and place back onto the machine to dry
• Check all supplies to be full and ready (especially coffee cups and food boxes).
• Make eye contact with customers as you listen carefully to their order
• Place drinks on the counter for pick up rather than handing them to customers, to avoid spills and possible burns.
• Never leave dirty towels in customer view and change dirty rags for clean ones regularly.
• Always keep one wet towel under espresso machine for steam wand wiping only. Wipe steam wand immediately after each use.
• Be ready to make drinks per customer’s requests (dry, lots of foam, wet, extra hot etc.).

Food Preparation with accuracy and speed.

Dishwasher

• Properly washes and sorts soiled dishes.
• Keeps dish area free of clutter and organized.
• Sets up dish stations, including sanitizer and wash sinks.
• Maintains clean / dry floors throughout the shift.
• Properly washes, stacks, and stores glassware, silverware, cookware, and storage containers.
• Maintains trash cans throughout shift and removes full trash cans and boxes at the end of each shift
• Maintains the dry storage area and the organization of storage shelves.
• Follows daily cleaning duties as assigned.

Thorough, hands-on training is provided for all new hires. Taking training notes is encouraged.
