SUMMARY:
The Pack Room Lead is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations within the packaging room. This position ensures that all packaging tasks are completed to company standards, quality expectations are met, and all required documentation is properly and accurately filled out. The Pack Room Lead sets the pace for the packaging team, supports day-to-day efficiency, and collaborates with leadership to maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:Leadership & Operations (30%)
- Ensure daily packaging goals are met and aligned with production schedules.
- Assign and oversee tasks to team members to ensure smooth execution of the day’s work.
- Act as point of contact for packaging team questions, challenges, and daily adjustments.
- Monitor team performance and provide feedback or escalate concerns to management.
Quality & Documentation (30%)
- Ensure all packaging is completed to proper standards (e.g., cut size, wrap quality, label accuracy).
- Complete and verify all required documentation, including production logs, batch records, and cleaning checklists.
- Support traceability and product accountability through accurate paperwork and interaction with the traceability software (Wherefour).
Hands-On Packaging & Cleaning (40%)
- Participate in daily packaging tasks including cutting, wrapping, prepping, and cleaning.
- Clean tools, equipment, and packaging areas per sanitation standards.
- Assist in cleaning cheese wheels and maintaining room readiness.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of packaging supplies and products.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicate shift handoff notes and team updates to other departments or incoming shifts.
- Support training of new team members.
- Assist with inventory counts and supply checks when needed.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- HACCP and/or ServSafe certification preferred
Experience & Skills:
- Prior packaging or production experience required
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to read, write, and complete documentation accurately
- Effective communication and team coordination
- Problem-solving mindset with ability to prioritize and adjust quickly
- Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation procedures
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:
- Ability to stand for majority of shift
- Repeated lifting/moving of up to 50 lbs, with bending, reaching, and turning
- Manual dexterity for cutting and wrapping tasks
- Must be able to work in both cool and warm environments
- Ability to work extended or flexible hours as needed (including weekends
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Manufacturing/warehouse setting
- Exposure to temperature variations (refrigerated and ambient zones)
- Moderate noise levels
- Frequent movement between packaging room, storage, and cleaning areas
