What does a Direct Support Professional (DSP) do?

Direct Support Professional tasks include helping individuals with daily activities, transportation, accompanying them on outings in the community, cooking and serving meals, performing light cleaning duties, and providing support and companionship.

Specific job duties include:

• Promote community engagement.
• Administer and supervise the individuals in taking medications and treatments and record those activities under the direction of a nurse.
• Willing to be a flexible. Actual duties may vary according to the client’s needs and specific assignments.
• Maintain, record, and review required documentation regarding the personal progress and skill development of each individual.
• Implement and document interventions as prescribed by the Individual Service Plan (ISP).
• Provide companionship, guidance, and assistance to individuals in the completion of daily tasks & skills.
• Possess the ability to access transportation services required for task completion.
• Accompany (NOT TRANSPORT) client to appointments as permitted by plan of care.
• Demonstrates a high degree of commitment to customer service and the provision of quality care.

Additional Requirements:

• This position is currently for 2nd and 3rd shift, M-F
• All shifts available on weekends
• High school diploma or GED required
• Must be able to pass meds (med passing certified)
• Able to pass a criminal background check
• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable, energetic, self-motivated, and well-organized
• Have a passion for providing support to individuals in need of services in our community
• Must be physically fit and healthy enough to perform the routine job tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 325 pounds utilizing as assisting device; walking, standing, or sitting for long periods; dexterity/able to use hands/fingers frequently; hearing and speaking to individuals; frequent movement such as bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing.
• Perform 12 Hours of in-services each year
• PASSPORT/ PC aides must attend a minimum of 8 hours of state-required in-services each year and 60 hours of training prior to hire.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and staff meeting, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
