Well Pump Installation Technician

The Well Pump Installation Technician is responsible for the installation and repair of water well pumps and related equipment, including water treatment systems. The technician works independently and as part of a team to ensure that all installations are completed on time and to budget, and that they meet all applicable local and state standards and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Crew Lead – heading a team of 2
• Install and service water well pumps and related equipment, including water treatment systems
• Knowledge of pump sizing and selection
• Connect the pump to the plumbing system
• Troubleshoot and repair existing pumps and equipment
• Ensure that all installations meet all applicable local and national codes
• Communicate scheduling information and needs with the Install Manager and Install Coordinator
• Complete all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
• Maintain the equipment and inventory in your or your supervisor's truck
• Attend weekly morning installation meetings.
• Attend company or vendor training as required
• Maintain any necessary licenses or certifications
• Always exhibit professional conduct
• Take the necessary precautions and steps to create a safe work environment for all workers and the customer

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Valid driver's license
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong customer service skills
• Plumbing foundation skills
• Piping and wiring skills
• Solid understanding of code and ensuring all installations are code-compliant
• Proficiency in supporting the installation of equipment and systems with little supervision
• Ability to proficiently solder, install gas piping, install water and drain waste and vent piping
• Ability to look ahead at the next step and to ensure the installation goes as planned and is completed in a timely manner
• Willing to pursue, develop, and participate in continuing education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• 2 years of experience in well pump installation and repair
• Certification in well pump installation and repair
• Experience with a variety of well pump types and systems
• Experience with water treatment systems
• Experience with hydronic heating systems
• Manufacturer-specific training for specific equipment installations

• Must be well kept, clean, and have the appearance of a clean-cut, well-groomed professional that any customer would confidently welcome into their home.
• Must have necessary hand and power tools to support an efficient and professional installation.
• Must possess good organizational skills and be able to communicate and work well with people.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Must be able to read and write English proficiently

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Must be able to successfully complete mathematical aptitude evaluation.

REASONING ABILITY

• Must be capable of applying sound business judgment to all decisions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Residential Plumber’s License (or higher) Preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Regularly requires sitting, walking, bending, and lifting for prolonged periods of time.
• The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands feet and fingers to handle or feel objects and must be capable of bending, reaching, and crouching.
• Able to handle or feel objects and use tools and equipment and must be capable of bending, reaching, crouching, climbing, and crawling.
• Must have command of all five senses sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face-to-face for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Indoor and outdoor work in various climate conditions, ranging from very cold with rain to very hot and humid
• Work in attics, crawl spaces, and confined locations
• Moderate noise level
• Typical workweek: 8-10 hour workdays, 5 days per week, Monday-Friday
• Working hours: 7:30am-4:30pm with an hour lunch (or 7:30am-4:00pm with a half hour lunch)
• Occasional overtime may be required

FAST PACED WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position can, at times, deal with a large amount of information and is “fast paced”. Installations are allotted a certain amount of time to complete. These times can be determined by the Lead Well Pump Installation Technician, the outside sales position or the installation manager. Completing the jobs in the time frame allotted requires a willingness to learn and take direction, a solid education and a strong technical skill set, good organizational and good communication and coordination skills. Effectively accomplishing all of the above makes for a successful and profitable project. Weakness in these areas can make the pace feel “fast” and stressful.
