Job Scope:
The primary responsibilities of the VP, Technical Accounting include the following:
- Responsible for all technical accounting pronouncements related to Swift Current Energy. This will include remaining up to date on technical pronouncements and the understanding of financial regulations and legislation.
- Direct financial reporting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee financial internal control review process to ensure compliance.
- Utilize skills in Technical Accounting, Consolidation, Period End Closing, and Financial System to perform job duties effectively in collaboration with the EVP Finance and the Controller.
- Lead and manage the technical financial reporting team to ensure they meet objectives required by the organization.
- Work collaboratively with other teams in the organization to ensure financial reporting aligns with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address all financial reporting requirements.
- Work collaboratively with external auditors to proactively address all technical accounting pronouncements related to Swift Current Energy.
- Coordinate periodic meetings with external auditors. Update auditors with recent business transactions, providing all relevant documentation and agree on accounting treatment for a transaction.
- Ad hoc tasks as required from time to time
This role may require travel up to 10%, particularly to other Company offices. Job responsibilities may evolve based on Company needs and individual career growth. This role reports to the EVP, Finance & Accounting.
Qualifications:
- Ten-plus years of professional experience in technical accounting-focused roles.
- Accounting and/or audit experience gained in a top-tier, global accounting firm is required.
- In-house accounting function experience is not required but is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare technical accounting memos and documents.
- Experience with partnership accounting and HLBV, embedded derivatives, asset acquisitions, business combinations, renewables-related tax incentives and other complex transactions.
- Industry experience in power generation / utilities is preferred; renewable energy experience is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with accounting and reporting software tools, including Workiva and NetSuite.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field; advanced degree in accounting or related field is a plus.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
- Current authorization to live and work in the U.S.
