At Swift Engineering Inc, we specialize in advanced composites, unmanned systems, robotics, and associated technologies.
We are seeking a highly talented Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience with unmanned systems, power systems, batteries, electrical motors, thermal integration, system engineering, electrical hardware, prototyping/product development, and a vision for the future of these systems.
The Project Engineer, Electrical will work in a multidisciplinary environment with electrical, mechanical, GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), and software engineers. This position involves development from concept through implementation and testing, including flight testing (entire lifecycle).
The successful candidate will be responsible for updating, maintaining, and sustaining the Avionics and RF subsystems of aircraft from design to fabrication to product manufacturing to product end-of-life.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design analog and digital communication systems
- Design power management systems for low-power systems
- Design, development, fabrication, assembly, testing, and delivery of electronic products, including engineering drawings
- Design and implement circuit boards
- Implement avionics design improvements
- Aid anomaly investigations and determine required avionics or RF repairs
- Support avionics and RF production activities
- Track and remedy field avionics issues
- Troubleshoot complex systems such as avionics, embedded systems, and Radio Frequency (RF) links, supporting Flight Test operations
- Assess root cause to critical issues and contribute to sustainability and reliability of products
- Design, update, and troubleshoot EMI/EMC to minimize noise in the system
- Generate hardware requirements, design documents, validation testing plans, and schedules
- Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational & safety standards
- Update, maintain, and sustain subcomponent inventory
- Update, maintain, and sustain avionics and RF wiring harnesses and subsystems, including engineering drawings/documentation
- Track electronic component obsolescence activities
- Lead electronic BOM cost-out activities
Requirements:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or other degrees and experiences that are deemed equivalent
- 6 years in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline with equivalent experience
- Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex embedded systems and products
- Electronics and Mechanical Background: Wire harness design/fab, electronics prototyping, soldering, analog and digital circuitry, high-speed and low-speed CAN, etc.
- Broad understanding of Radio Frequency (RF), PCB Design, Power Systems, and Batteries with an area of expertise in one or more of these topics
- Hands-on experience in debugging and root cause corrective action testing
- Hands-on experience in integrating electro-mechanical systems
- Candidates with spacecraft/satellite, UAV aircraft, robotics development experience and/or hobby drone experience will be given special consideration
- Candidates must be US Person for compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations)
Skills Required:
- Good understanding of board design and component placement/layout of mixed digital, analog, and RF electronics and antennas to prevent EM interference and susceptibility
- Ability to create and review revision controlled electrical engineering drawings that helps to define and illustrate specific requirements, processes, and designs
- High degree of comfort with using hardware and software test tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Spectrum analyzers, Multimeters, RF power meters, vector scopes, antennae pattern analysis)
- Knowledge of and experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
- Knowledge of and experience with troubleshooting complex systems
- Knowledge of general engineering principles, mathematics, and physics
- Proficient with office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, etc.)
Working Conditions:
Primarily in an office environment, and shop environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected. Travel is expected.
