Job Summary: The Auto Repair Shop Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the service department, ensuring customer satisfaction, and managing a team of technicians and service advisors. This role involves coordinating repair and maintenance services, handling customer inquiries, managing budgets, and ensuring that the shop operates efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Operations Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the service department.
- Schedule and prioritize repair and maintenance work to ensure timely completion.
- Monitor shop workflow to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure that all repair work is performed correctly and meets industry standards.
Customer Service:
- Greet customers and handle service inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
- Provide accurate estimates for repairs and maintenance services.
- Communicate with customers regarding the status of their vehicles and any additional repairs needed.
- Resolve customer complaints and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Team Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise service advisors, technicians, and other service department staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to improve staff performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork within the service department.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the service department budget, including labor, parts, and overhead costs.
- Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to achieve revenue and profit goals.
- Review and approve invoices, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Manage inventory levels of parts and supplies, ensuring availability without overstocking.
Quality Control:
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure that all work meets the highest standards.
- Perform final inspections on completed repairs to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Monitor warranty work and ensure compliance with manufacturer requirements.
Vendor and Supplier Relations:
- Establish and maintain relationships with parts suppliers and vendors.
- Negotiate pricing and terms to ensure the best value for the shop.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts and materials.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in automotive technology or business management is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an auto repair shop, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage a team and drive performance.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using automotive shop management software.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift moderate to heavy items as required.
Work Environment:
- Primarily in an automotive shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.
- May require occasional travel for training or meetings.
