Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)Overview:
We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide high-acuity, patient-centered care in a critical care setting. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical judgment, advanced hemodynamic monitoring skills, and the ability to respond quickly to life-threatening conditions. This position requires precision, adaptability, and expertise in critical care nursing.
Healthcare Setting:
- Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Hospital Setting: Acute Care / Level I or II Trauma Center
- Patient Population: Critically ill adults, geriatric patients, post-surgical, and trauma patients
- Technology Used: Advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilators, continuous cardiac monitoring, and intravenous infusion systems
Medical Specialties:
- Cardiac Care: Post-MI management, hemodynamic monitoring, arrhythmia management
- Respiratory Care: Ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, oxygen therapy, acute respiratory failure
- Neurological Care: Stroke monitoring, seizure management, increased ICP
- Renal & Metabolic Care: Acute kidney injury (AKI), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), electrolyte imbalances
- Sepsis & Infectious Disease: Sepsis protocol management, antibiotic therapy, infection control
- Trauma & Post-Surgical Recovery: Multi-system trauma, major surgeries, wound care
- Multisystem Organ Failure: Management of complex, critically ill patients
Key Responsibilities:
- Critical Care Monitoring & Interventions:
- Perform comprehensive head-to-toe assessments on critically ill patients
- Interpret and respond to hemodynamic monitoring data (BP, CVP, CO, etc.)
- Identify and manage cardiac arrhythmias, following ACLS guidelines
- Respond quickly and accurately to rapid changes in patient conditions
- Assist in intubation, extubation, ventilator management, and tracheostomy care
- Medication Administration & Safety:
- Administer IV medications, drips (vasopressors, sedatives, insulin), and blood products
- Ensure adherence to the five rights of medication administration
- Monitor for adverse drug reactions and incompatibilities
- Interdisciplinary Coordination & Communication:
- Effectively communicate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers
- Collaborate with respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and case managers to ensure optimal patient care
- Provide education to patients and families regarding disease processes, treatments, and post-discharge care
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with hospital policies
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the EMR (EPIC preferred)
- Ensure compliance with evidence-based ICU protocols and hospital policies
- Leadership & Unit Support:
- Function as a resource nurse and mentor for newer nurses and team members
- Assist in coordinating care and delegating tasks to LPNs and support staff
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and advocate for patient needs
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Licensure & Certifications:
- Active Utah RN License (or compact equivalent) – Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required (AHA, American Red Cross, or equivalent)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) – Preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a high-acuity setting
- Experience in a 12 bed ICU unit preferred
- At least one completed 13-week travel assignment preferred
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in ventilator management, central line care, titration of critical drips
- Ability to perform rapid neurological and cardiac assessments
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
Schedule & Work Conditions:
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (Days/Nights available)
- Workweek: 36-40 hours per week
- Weekend & Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and rotating holidays required
- On-Call Requirement: 12-hour call shifts may be required
- Floating: Required to float to other critical care areas and Emergency Department as needed
- Scrubs: Required but not provided by the facility
