RN Operating Room

Job Description:

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role ensures patient safety, surgical efficiency, and optimal outcomes in a fast-paced surgical environment. The OR RN collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to maintain a sterile and well-organized surgical field.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preoperative & Intraoperative Patient Care:
• Prepare the operating room with required surgical equipment and supplies.
• Assess, plan, and implement individualized patient care during surgery.
• Assist the surgical team by circulating and/or scrubbing in procedures.
• Maintain strict sterile technique and infection control protocols.
• Monitor patient vitals and respond to any intraoperative complications.
• Postoperative Care & Documentation:
• Provide immediate post-anesthesia care and assist with patient recovery.
• Accurately document all procedures, medications, and observations.
• Communicate effectively with PACU, ICU, or Med-Surg teams for seamless patient transfer.
• Team Collaboration & Compliance:
• Work closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and surgical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff training.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active NY RN License (unencumbered).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (AHA preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience preferred.
• Experience with various surgical procedures, including general, orthopedic, and cardiovascular surgeries.
• Familiarity with EMR systems (EPIC preferred).
