Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse – Travel Contract in Rio Rancho, NM
Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel contract in Rio Rancho, NM. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in telemetry and progressive care, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor and assess patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and overall condition, promptly identifying any changes that may require intervention.
- Medication Administration: Safely administer medications, including titration of drug dosages, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
- Care Planning: Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient assessments and physician directives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and discharge instructions to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Documentation: Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, interventions, and responses in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Requirements:
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico or a compact state license.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a telemetry or progressive care unit with at least 18 beds. Previous travel nursing experience, including the successful completion of at least one 13-week assignment, is required.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS): Must be current and obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA), American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Must be current and obtained through the AHA, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS): Current certification required.
- Skills Assessment: Must provide or pass a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia/Dysrhythmia Assessment (BCA) exam prior to or during the first week of assignment. Failure to pass the BCA test will result in dismissal.
- EMR Proficiency: Experience with EPIC EMR is preferred.
Additional Information:
- Shift Details: 12-hour night shifts starting at 7:00 PM. Candidates must be willing to work three weekend shifts within a four-week scheduling period. Shifts may fluctuate to meet department staffing needs, and on-call, weekends, and holidays may be required.
- Floating Requirements: Travelers are the first to float within the facility and to alternate locations within 20 miles of the primary assigned location. This includes floating to all areas in which they are trained, such as the Emergency Department and alternate holding areas, to care for appropriate patients, including PresNow ED/UC (freestanding urgent/emergent care facilities).
- Orientation: The first week of the contract includes orientation, not to exceed 40 total hours, and encompasses EPIC training.
- Scrubs: Required and not provided by the facility.
- Travel Restrictions: Candidates must not permanently reside within a 75-mile straight-line radius of the facility. Local travelers are not eligible for this position.
- Submission Requirements: When submitting candidates, include at least two references (one must be from the current manager), a resume, and a completed skills checklist/competency assessment. Time-off requests must be disclosed with the initial submission to be considered for approval. Time off requested after the acceptance date will not be approved.
