Swig is looking for a highly capable individual to join their accounting team as a Staff/Payroll Accountant. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for our diverse team. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks are essential. Your strong Excel skills will be vital in maintaining and analyzing payroll data, as well as in generating insightful reports that drive decision-making. This position will also assist other accounting functions of the company such as accounts payable. He or she will be knowledgeable about general accounting practices and business functions and will be preferred to have experience in some accounting role. This position reports to the Brand Controller. In this role, your duties will include ensuring accurate salary payments, calculating overtime earnings, and updating employee hiring or termination information on the payroll system.
To ensure your success, you should demonstrate knowledge of applicable tax laws and ideally have experience in a similar role. A first-class payroll accountant will be detail-oriented and someone who can accurately and timely process salaries. This position will drive outstanding results by completing their tasks in a timely manner in conjunction with the month-end close and have a great ability to work in a team environment and take on ad-hoc projects or tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process end-to-end payroll cycles for a rapidly growing employee base, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Collaborate with HR and Management to gather and update employee information, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefits.
- Utilize your advanced Excel skills to create and maintain intricate payroll spreadsheets, tracking hours, deductions, and other relevant data.
- Verify timekeeping records, resolve discrepancies, and communicate with team members to ensure accurate payroll calculations.
- Generate and distribute payroll reports, providing insights to management regarding payroll trends, costs, and budget considerations.
- Stay updated on relevant tax regulations and employment laws to ensure payroll compliance and accurate tax withholdings.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline payroll processes for increased efficiency. Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation as requested. Handle employee inquiries related to payroll, demonstrating excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Assist the AP Manager with processing approved invoices in the accounting system and properly processing payments to vendors; ensure intercompany balances are properly accounted for and effectively managed.
- Work with the Brand Controller and Director of Finance as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Accounting degree or working towards an accounting degree
- Experience working in accounting, Payroll Accountant, or in a similar role
- Experience in preparing ledger entries and processing payments
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) will be advantageous but not necessary.
