While specific duties can vary depending on the project's complexity, common responsibilities include:
Job Duties:
- Manage new hire safety orientation program and provide ongoing job specific safety training.
- Perform daily site safety inspections and the inspection of safety equipment; removal of any defective equipment and manage the fall protection equipment inspection procedures.
- Establish a schedule for the preparation, submittal, review and acceptance of Job Hazard Analysis.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive accepted Job Hazard Analysis program.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance regarding safety and health requirements.
- Compile, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to near-miss incidents, injuries, and illness.
- Participate in fact finding Root Cause Analysis for injury/incident investigations and obtain accident and injury report from jobsites.
- Record and manage all site safety documentation and provide detailed weekly written reports.
- Participate in safety pre-construction meetings and pre- work meetings.
- Facilitate mass safety meetings and required weekly tailgate safety meetings.
- Compile materials for safety meetings, prepare agendas, and record meeting minutes.
- Manage and coordinate substance abuse testing and set up for new jobsites.
- Facilitate “return to work program” with employees, medical professionals, and project personnel.
- Serve as liaison for worker’s compensation reporting, case management, and participate in claims management process.
- Inform management of existing or potential safety issues that could result in a dangerous situation.
- Demonstrate willingness to take on more difficult jobs and perform them correctly, assuring that job is completed right the first time.
- Attend training seminars, classes and conferences that further develop the individual in regard to his/her area of specialty.
- Follow all company standards based on the employee, drug and alcohol and safety handbooks.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction industry
- Minimum of OSHA 30 certification & OSHA 500 preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, standards, and/or other applicable codes
- Demonstrated construction safety experience field skill set.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills with the ability to use MS Office with proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Accurate and precise attention to detail
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations with regard to safety
- Ability to work outside majority of the time.
Potential Hazards:
- Outside the majority of the time
- Potential exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures
- Manufacturing, pipeline, and refining environment
- Fit and move in confined spaces including tanks and vessels
- Limited working surfaces
- Exposure to noise above 85 decibels and intense odors
- Climbing up and down stairs and ladders to both get in and out of trenches and up to elevated platforms (scaffolding at significant heights)
- Lifting necessary equipment and materials 1-50 pounds, 50% of the time on a monthly basis for required tasks
- Potential or Periodic amounts of time for the following:
- If driving is required, valid driver license and proof of insurability is required. All drivers are subject to a DMV background records search.
