We are seeking a Capital Project Engineer to manage the development and implementation of mechanical and civil capital projects to support facility and business unit objectives. This role will be responsible for managing a portfolio of facility-level projects, with project assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all phases of capital projects, including business case development, evaluation of technical alternatives, cost estimates, execution plans, design engineering, construction management, commissioning, and start-up.
- Oversee structural design for small mill projects.
- Collaborate with onsite and corporate engineering teams, purchasing, and technical resources for project development. Interface with operating and maintenance teams to ensure smooth project development.
- Independently manage several smaller projects or one major project, overseeing budget, schedule, and technical performance.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international policies related to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) by working with EHS and Safety Managers to verify adherence.
- Support the development of less experienced team members.
- Ensure engagement and alignment from all project stakeholders, including engineering partners and contractors.
- Manage the procurement process, including bid analysis, contract negotiation, awarding of work, expediting, and resolving contract issues.
- Manage major projects engineered by contractors, ensuring proper engineering deliverables and efficient contractor management.
- Overtime or night work may be required to meet project deadlines, particularly during machine or annual outages.
- Willingness to participate in training, presentations, and meetings.
- Travel may be required for training, client meetings, and off-site assignments.
- Weekend work may be required approximately once every five weeks.
- Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent experience required.
- Experience in tank and vessel project work is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of capital project development and execution, safety, industrial regulatory requirements, reliability, project cost control, and strategic planning.
- Proficient in estimating, contracting strategies, construction management, outage planning, and project management.
- Strong leadership skills in negotiation, team development, conflict resolution, and planning.
- Basic to advanced technical knowledge of Microsoft Office and working knowledge of SAP and Unifier is preferred.
