Role Overview
The Clinical Data Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the recruitment and orientation of Clinical Data Services staff, as well as making recommendations related to hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations. The role also involves initiating regular contact or networking with employees, physicians, and external professionals for projects, benchmarking, and other related activities in alignment with hospital strategies. The Clinical Data Coordinator will direct and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. In this position, you will coordinate efforts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of clinical data while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and hospital revenue initiatives. You will provide expertise in coding and classification systems to healthcare providers, support improvements in documentation, reimbursement, and the revenue cycle, and perform chart reviews and coding assessments to maintain compliance with established coding principles and documentation guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of Clinical Data Services staff.
- Recommend and oversee the hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations of staff as appropriate.
- Maintain regular contact with employees, physicians, and external professionals regarding similar projects and benchmarking efforts.
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance of clinical data in line with regulatory standards and hospital revenue goals.
- Offer expertise in coding and classification systems to support healthcare providers and improve documentation, reimbursement, and the revenue cycle.
- Perform chart, internal/external coding, and APG reviews to ensure adherence to coding principles and documentation guidelines.
- Provide guidance and education to coding staff to improve their knowledge and performance.
- 3 years of inpatient coding experience.
- 2 years of demonstrated experience with complex case mix coding.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification from an accredited body (e.g., AHIMA).
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Strong interpersonal and educator skills to support and develop coding staff.
- 5 years of Health Information Management/Medical Records experience in a healthcare environment.
- Prior experience as a DRG Coordinator.
- Experience with coding tools like 3M.
- Relevant certification (e.g., RHIA or RHIT).
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certification through an accredited health information management organization.
