Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe work environment that causes no harm to people or the environment.
- Lead safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews.
- Support operating results through managing subordinates with an emphasis on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance.
- Develop individuals by providing challenging assignments and by offering training, coaching, and mentoring.
- Ensure fair and clear task allocation, formulating and assigning work based on business criticality.
- Decide and deploy appropriate crew arrangements for planned and unplanned situations based on absences, schedule requirements, equipment availability, and vacations, within labor agreement guidelines.
- Lead a technically capable maintenance workforce that values diversity and is responsive, flexible, and customer-oriented.
- Work with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.
- Gather data to assist in applying root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques for major exceptions.
- Manage assets effectively and cost-efficiently, ensuring proper equipment operations, availability, and long-term viability.
- Advance business objectives related to quality (consistency and reliability), cost (supplies), waste elimination, and lean manufacturing.
- Make decisions regarding differential performance, both requiring recognition and reward or discipline, ensuring fairness with appropriate documentation.
- Build relationships and persuade others to resolve problems and directly enhance customer satisfaction.
- Occasionally deal with sensitive interpersonal situations.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
- Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical background is a plus.
- Experience in a unionized environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and practices related to HR/IR, including bargaining and local agreements, is a plus.
- A working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (ABS) is required for effective business results.
