Responsibilities
- System Design & Architecture: Lead and manage the development and design of complex network systems, ensuring they meet performance, security, and communication requirements for both satellite and terrestrial communication systems.
- Engineering Management: Oversee technical development, integrating best engineering practices and ensuring successful completion of projects across multiple functions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams from multiple departments, including systems engineering, security, and software development, to ensure the successful implementation of network architectures and designs.
- Technology & Process Leadership: Champion the adoption of new technologies, processes, and tools to enhance the network infrastructure and overall system capabilities.
- Risk & Requirements Analysis: Conduct detailed analyses on systems, including cost, risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements. Provide guidance on system security, and ensure compliance with all technical and security standards.
- Customer & Stakeholder Communication: Interface with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure network designs meet business and security requirements. Present detailed technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strategic Planning & Vision: Provide long-term strategic direction, working with leadership to ensure the network infrastructure remains cutting-edge and meets future needs.
- Documentation & Reporting: Ensure thorough documentation of system designs, analyses, and security features. Support the generation of technical engineering products throughout the system development life cycle.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (Master's degree preferred).
- Experience: 15 years of relevant experience (or 13 years with a Master's degree).
- Leadership: Exceptional leadership skills and a track record of leading cross-functional teams. Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical decision-making.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in systems design, networking, and satellite communications, including:
- Cisco Router/Switching
- VMWare, Redhat/Rocky Linux
- WAN Troubleshooting
- TCP/IP Protocol Suite
- Firewall knowledge and IP protocols
- NETCONF/YANG, TACLANE, and Juniper OS experience
- Satellite communications and ground operations experience
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify, analyze, and resolve complex system design weaknesses.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and explain complex technical topics to senior leadership and customers.
- Advanced Network Technologies: Experience with satellite communications, including ground-to-satellite communication systems.
- Security Domain Expertise: Knowledge of multi-level security domains and cross-domain solutions.
- Agile Program Experience: Familiarity with agile methodologies and the ability to manage complex systems using an agile approach.
- A strategic thinker with a vision for future technologies and the ability to anticipate and address challenges.
