What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Excellence Manager position at Switchgear Power Systems?
The Operational Excellence Manager will be responsible for implementing and managing a lean initiative program, including setting up a production system incorporating 5S, Poka Yoke, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen events, and other lean methodologies.
Strategic tasks
- Develop and implement lean strategies to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- Establish and maintain a culture of operational excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive lean initiatives.
- Monitor and report on the progress of lean projects.
- Ensure alignment of lean initiatives with organizational goals.
- Creating and controlling documents for initiatives.
Operative tasks
- Conduct value stream mapping to identify areas for improvement.
- Implement 5S methodology to organize and standardize the workplace.
- Apply Poka Yoke techniques to prevent errors and defects.
- Train and mentor employees on lean principles and practices.
- Analyze data to measure the effectiveness of lean initiatives.
- Facilitate kaizen events to drive continuous improvement.
- Create minimum standard of base lean knowledge for all company and establish certificate program
- Incorporate all regulatory compliance (NETA, IEEE, CSA/UL, NFPA, NEC, ect) into lead initiatives to ensure customer and industry compliance is maintained and integrated.
Responsibility
- Lead lean initiatives across SPS’s manufacturing areas and systems.
- Ensure best practice applications.
- Drive cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects.
- Support the Director of Manufacturing in achieving operational goals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Manage lean project budgets.
- Track and report cost savings from lean initiatives.
- Ensure lean projects are completed within budget.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction.
Basic Requirements
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with project management.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Lean Six Sigma certification – Black Belt Preferred
- Additional training in lean methodologies.
Experience and skills
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of implementing lean initiatives.
- Experience with lean tools and methods such as 5S, Poka Yoke, Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
