What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infrastructure Designer position at Swoon?
We’re looking for an experienced IT Infrastructure Designer to join our team and support infrastructure design and planning across data centers and office environments. This hybrid role is primarily based between the OM Tech Center and Owings Mills campus, with occasional travel to our new Harbor Point office. Flexibility to be onsite full-time during key project phases is required.
What You’ll Do
Data Center / Office Space Design & Planning
- Create detailed CAD-based layouts, schematics, and equipment designs
- Evaluate and implement power and cooling solutions for optimal performance
- Audit existing infrastructure, ensure adherence to standards, and update documentation accordingly
Power & Cooling
- Design efficient, reliable power distribution and cooling systems
- Perform heat load and power calculations to ensure ideal operating conditions
Data Connectivity
- Design high-speed cabling layouts for data centers and office environments
- Ensure adherence to cable management standards and labeling protocols
Project Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define scope, timeline, and budgets
- Identify design risks and develop creative, practical solutions
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain as-built documentation in AutoCAD and PDF formats
- Track audit results and drive remediation
- Contribute to evolving internal standards based on best practices and industry trends
What You Bring
Required Skills & Experience:
- 3 years of experience in data center design and IT infrastructure
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with ASHRAE 9.9 and TIA data cabling standards
- Hands-on experience with copper and fiber testing (Fluke testing systems)
- Knowledge of CommScope Systimax products and cabling standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with LISP/AutoLISP scripting for CAD automation
- Familiarity with DCIM tools (bonus points for Sunbird dcTrack)
- RCDD certification
- Any of the following certifications:
- CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional)
- CDCD / CDCDP (Certified Data Center Designer / Professional)
- CDCEP (Certified Data Centre Energy Professional)
