What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kafka Middleware Engineer position at Swoon?
Swoon is actively seeking a Principal Middleware Engineer with a specialization in Kafka to join the team!
What your day-to-day look like?
- Design, implement, and maintain robust and scalable middleware solutions on scalable Kafka clusters
- Monitor Kafka performance
- Develop and maintain IAC using Ansible and Terraform; create and maintain IAC modules
- Design and implement cloud-based infrastructure on AWS cloud
- Automate infrastructure, provisioning, deployments, and operations enabling our organization to rapidly deliver and scale applications
What’s Required?
- Subject matter experience in Kafka – 8 years of experience
- IaC experience – 8 years of experience
- 5 years of experience in Terraform and/or Ansible
- 5 years of experience in AWS or Azure cloud – AWS preferred
- Containerization experience highly preferred using Kubernetes or Docker

Hybrid Role – 3 days a week in office
Location – Downtown Chicago, IL 60606 or Coppell, TX
Salary - $150,000 -$162,000 plus 15% annual bonus
