The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, security, and quality of health information records. This role plays a vital part in maintaining the integrity of electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare documentation to support efficient healthcare delivery, meet regulatory requirements, and facilitate patient care.
Successful Candidate will have:
- Record Management: Accurately organize, update, and maintain electronic health records (EHR) and physical medical records according to organizational and regulatory standards.
- Data Quality and Accuracy: Review, validate, and correct medical records to ensure data integrity, quality, and accuracy; identify and resolve documentation errors or inconsistencies in collaboration with healthcare providers.
- Compliance and Privacy: Ensure all records meet HIPAA and other regulatory standards, including maintaining patient confidentiality and data security practices.
- Communication and Support: Work closely with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and external partners to support record accuracy and completeness, address requests for information, and resolve issues related to documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on best practices, new technologies, and industry standards in health information management to support efficient and compliant HIM processes.
Education/Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma; Certification in RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with EHR systems and health information management software. Proficient with Office 365 products.
- Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of HIPAA and other regulatory requirements; excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with both clinical and non-clinical staff; strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a healthcare setting.
