As an Optometric Assistant for Swope Health, you will be part of passionate optometry team that provides care for the people who need it the most. The optometric assistant provides excellent customer service to our patients in the Optometry department. In your role you will:
- Conduct a brief case history on entering patients, including chief compliant, medication review, hospitalization and surgical history, family history and social history
- Collects and records demographic information on the appropriate forms and in the patient’s medical record
- Perform entering visual acuity measurements, tonometry, and neutralization of habitual optical correction (and auto-refraction on patients on refractive exams).
- Perform ancillary testing as ordered by staff optometrists, including scanning laser polarimetry, tachymetry, automated perimetry, optical coherence tomography, and fundus photography.
- Conduct patient training for insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses.
- Place orders for contact lenses. Both diagnostic lenses for fitting purposes and those for patient supply and verify orders and notify patients upon arrival.
- Notify patients of the arrival of contact lens orders.
- Arrange returns for undispersed contact lenses
- Arrange and track patient referrals.
- Cover front desk representative
Successful Candidates will have:
- High School diploma & GED required. Medical Assistant or Ophthalmic Assistant certification strongly preferred.
- Outstanding communication skills, telephone etiquette and possess the ability to work with people.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations, including decimals
