Lead UI/UX Designer – Avionics and Cabin Systems

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced UI/UX Design Leader with a strong background in aviation, automotive, or embedded systems to define and implement best-in-class UI/UX solutions across SyberJet’s cockpit, passenger, and service applications.

As a Lead UI/UX Designer, you will be responsible for capturing UI/UX requirements from various stakeholders, developing SyberJet UI/UX standards that comply with regulatory requirements, and working with software development teams to provide graphical assets for all UI/UX screens.

You will collaborate with avionics engineers, industrial designers, and software developers to create human-centered designs that enhance usability, safety, and user engagement across cockpit displays, passenger interfaces, and operational applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

UI/UX Requirements & Standards Development

  • Engage with pilots, avionics engineers, ownership and marketing team to capture UI/UX requirements for cockpit, cabin, and service applications.
  • Develop and maintain SyberJet UI/UX standards that comply with aviation regulatory requirements for cockpit and passenger-facing interfaces.
  • Ensure all UI/UX designs adhere to FAA, EASA, and industry HMI best practices to enhance safety, usability, and legibility.

Cockpit & Flight Deck UI/UX

  • Lead the creation of graphics to be used in avionics interfaces, including Primary Flight Display (PFD), Multi-Function Display (MFD), and touchscreen avionics controls.
  • Ensure an intuitive, high-performance HMI design that enhances pilot situational awareness and operational efficiency.
  • Develop high-resolution graphical assets and real-time UI elements for avionics screens.
  • Work closely with avionics software engineers to ensure seamless UI implementation within real-time operating systems.

Passenger Experience & Cabin Systems

  • Develop graphics for any touchscreen-based passenger control interfaces. 
  • Collaborate with aircraft interior designers to integrate UI elements seamlessly into cabin layouts.

Service & Maintenance Applications

  • Design graphics for use in web and mobile applications for aircraft service teams, supporting diagnostics, fleet management, and maintenance tracking.
  • Ensure applications are optimized for high-pressure operational environments and provide real-time data insights.

Mobile & Web-Based Applications

  • Oversee the design and UX strategy for customer-facing mobile apps, providing pilots, passengers, and maintenance teams with critical aircraft insights and controls.
  • Develop remote aircraft monitoring features that integrate with SyberJet’s aircraft ecosystem.
  • Optimize the UI/UX of service and fleet management tools for seamless usability.

Graphics Development & Collaboration with Software Teams

  • Work closely with software development teams to provide all necessary graphical assets for UI/UX screens, ensuring seamless integration into SyberJet’s aircraft systems.
  • Develop and maintain a library of UI components, icons, and graphical assets for cockpit, cabin, and maintenance applications.
  • Ensure graphical elements are optimized for embedded systems, maintaining high performance and responsiveness across avionics and in-flight applications.

UI/UX Strategy & Leadership

  • Define UX best practices for aviation interfaces across multiple platforms, ensuring consistency and scalability.
  • Lead user research, journey mapping, wireframing, and usability testing to drive optimal design decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, software development, marketing, and flight test teams to align UI/UX efforts with SyberJet’s broader product development strategy.
  • Build and mentor a team of UI/UX designers, fostering innovation and excellence in aviation interface design.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience

  • 8 years of experience in UI/UX design, including work on aviation, automotive, avionics, or complex embedded systems.
  • Proven track record of leading UX/UI teams and delivering end-to-end product experiences across multiple platforms.
  • Expertise in human-centered design, wireframing, user research, HMI design, and journey mapping.
  • Experience designing for real-time graphical displays in cockpit, automotive, or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices for aviation UX and avionics displays.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Unreal Engine, and other UI/UX design tools.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Agile development methodologies, and OTA (Over-the-Air) product updates.
  • Experience working with embedded software teams to implement UI solutions for avionics and mission-critical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing infotainment systems, instrument clusters, or avionics HMIs.
  • Strong knowledge of UI implementation for real-time embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with VR-based UX, flight simulators, or AR-enhanced aviation experiences.
  • Prior experience working with flight simulation or connected aircraft systems.
