Job Summary:The College Counselor will provide comprehensive guidance to students and their families throughout the college admissions process. This role involves academic advising, career exploration, college selection, application support, and financial aid counseling. The College Counselor will work closely with students to help them achieve their post-secondary goals, ensuring each student receives personalized and strategic advice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions to students regarding college planning, application processes, and career pathways.
- Guide students in selecting appropriate high school courses to align with college admissions requirements.
- Assist students in preparing college applications, including personal statements, essays, and supplemental materials.
- Educate students and families on standardized testing (SAT, ACT, AP), application timelines, and deadlines.
- Advise on scholarship opportunities, financial aid applications (FAFSA, CSS Profile), and merit-based awards.
- Organize college fairs, campus visits, workshops, and informational sessions.
- Build and maintain relationships with college admissions representatives and stay current with admissions trends and policies.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate counseling records.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field (required).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in college counseling, admissions, or a related educational role.
- Strong knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid, and scholarship programs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using college counseling platforms (e.g., College Planner Pro) and Microsoft Office Suite.
