What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Education position at Sylvan Learning Center?
The Director of Education is responsible for delivering a high quality personal customer experience by ensuring that Sylvan education programs are delivered by teachers as designed and that the ongoing education needs of Sylvan families are met. Your primary responsibility will be to champion the Sylvan developed curriculum, manage and ensure the quality of the education standards and teaching staff, as well as grow the business in your center. As a successful Director of Education, you will:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Observe and coach instructional staff on a regular basis to ensure that teachers follow Sylvan’s Instructional Management guidelines and deliver instructional sessions that are balanced and robust
- Manage and deliver conference activities such as preparing conference materials and meeting with parents to keep families informed of progress and enrolled in Sylvan
- Select, hire, train, and motivate all certified instructors, teachers and educational staff
- Motivate and develop staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities
- Contribute to center profitability by controlling labor budget through managing instructor staffing levels and schedules
- Partner with Center Director to run day-to-day operations including customer account management
- Establish and maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers to ensure Sylvan programs meet student and family needs
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
- State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired)
- Knowledge of current educational policy
- Previous retail and/or sales experience
- Experience using Microsoft Word and other standard business applications used by the Center
- Related experience (sales and marketing), with a strong focus on customer service
- Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) preferred

- Willing to lift boxes, clean floors, and hold doors if that is what is needed for the team

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
