Sylvan Learning Center, the nation's leading provider of educational services, seeks part-time teachers. At Sylvan Learning Center, we teach students (Kindergarten through High School) at various levels to increase confidence and independence, providing them with skills that will last a lifetime.
We are currently looking for experienced tutors to work at our Gardena learning center, experienced in the following:
- MATH (if possible to Algebra 2 or beyond)
- READING/WRITING (up to 12th grade)
- TEST PREP (with training).
As an Instructor at Sylvan, your primary responsibilities are: Teaching and building rapport with students. NO LESSON PLANS!

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervise, interact with, and motivate students
- Reward students for completed assignments
- Evaluate and document student progress
- Communicate student needs to the center director
- Inspire and develop a rapport with students
- Establish a fun learning environment
- Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan
REQUIREMENTS
- Four year degree or equivalent
- State or provincial teaching credentials (preferred)
- Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience (preferred)
- ALL TEACHERS:
- Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension up to 5th grade
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic up to 5th grade
- MATH TEACHERS:
- Knowledge of mathematics up to and beyond Algebra 2, Calculus, and Statistics
- READING TEACHERS:
- Knowledge of phonics, comprehension, and writing practices up to 12th grade
Compensation: $19-$21/hour
Salary : $19 - $21
