Responsibilities
- Accurately code patient diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9 and DRG coding systems.
- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy, ensuring all relevant information is captured for billing purposes.
- Collaborate with medical staff to clarify any discrepancies in documentation or coding.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in coding guidelines and regulations.
- Assist in the resolution of medical billing issues, including claims denials and appeals.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and data security.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance coding skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical coding, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, DRG, ICD-9 coding systems, and medical billing processes.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office operations.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate data entry and problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is preferred but not required.
