The Director of Nursing (DON) leads the coordination and delivery of quality nursing care within a behavioral health treatment setting, ensuring compliance with health regulations and organizational standards. This role involves direct oversight of the nursing team, supporting strategic clinical goals, and fostering professional development to enhance care quality and safety. The DON also plays a crucial role in staff recruitment, retention, and succession planning, all while maintaining a 24 / 7 availability for medical needs, staffing, and patient emergencies.

Patient Care Management : Assess patient needs upon admission, administer treatments per physician orders, and maintain nursing records. Ensure compliance with federal and state health regulations.Team Leadership : Supervise nursing staff, provide mentorship, and facilitate ongoing training programs to develop clinical competencies. Manage staff schedules, coordinate with the leadership team, and ensure all shifts are adequately staffed.Compliance and Documentation : Oversee nursing documentation, quality improvement measures, and patient confidentiality per HIPAA and other regulations. Conduct regular retrospective chart audits and maintain up-to-date knowledge on healthcare standards and coding practices.Operational Support : Develop and manage departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives, support budgeting processes, and participate in strategic planning and performance improvement initiatives.Crisis and Emergency Response : Provide direct nursing care during emergencies and urgent situations and ensure adherence to COVID-19 protocols and other health and safety standards.Key Competencies
