Role Summary/Purpose:

In its course of business Synchrony will consider accelerating its growth through investments of venture capital, mergers or acquisitions of external entities or with complex system conversions. These types of activities bring risks which must be assessed and managed prior to a deal being signed and especially once the investment is made public.

This role (Risk Management Oversight Specialist) is focused on the set of Risk Management activities necessary to independently ensure that risks undertaken by the business (1LOD) are appropriate when an investment is being considered and the oversight for the set of integration activities required by the 1LOD of the entity into Synchrony to comply with established 2LOD processes and practices or when systems are being developed or converted.

Essential Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Coordinate a cross-functional team of resources with varying aspects of domain knowledge in Risk Management to independently assess risks associated with the acquisition or investment in an external entity.
  • Perform necessary project management activities through weekly meetings and task management to achieve project milestones and expected deliverables. Meetings shall have prepared Agendas and Minutes to reflect key topics of discussion and team decisions.
  • Inventory and track 2LOD oversight activities of integration ensuring appropriate 2LOD representation is in place across 1LOD Functional domains. Escalate gaps of oversight.
  • Track and facilitate the development of management reports for the identification and escalation of risks requiring management attention
  • Monitor risks being accepted by the business and provide an independent assessment of the risk-taking activities
  • Manage risks and issues within the Synchrony’s enterprise governance application (eGRC)
  • Manage risks and issues within the eGRC application
  • Summarize status of Issues and Risks identified by 1LOD across Workstreams and present (minimum quarterly) to appropriate Governance forums and Committees
  • Document oversight activities and expectations in the form of a Oversight Guidebook to ensure future Integrations are managed consistently from a 2LOD standpoint. The Guidebook will enable a standard and repeatable process is established
  • Support Operational Risk Management (ORM) team with tracking team deliverables requested by 1LOD and business as usual (BAU) activities including Risk Acceptances, Adhoc inquiries from regulators, and past oversight opinions (Caveats, Enhancement Considerations).
  • Support the execution of planned Targeted Reviews and other oversight activities performed by ORM with planning and other administrative tasks.
  • Research, investigate, and document certain Technology and Operations processes in coordination with subject matter experts in 1LOD as identified by ORM with the goal of increased understanding of the process by 2LOD and identify current risks and controls
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of information technology and/or data analytics experience
  • Strong project management and tracking skills

Desired Characteristics

  • Proven analytical skills with strong attention to detail and quality control of work product
  • Working knowledge of Cloud and/or Generative AI emerging risks and implementations
  • Experience in financial services or banking industry with understanding of financial services regulatory environment
  • Proven experience working in an ambiguous environment with proven ability to explain complex concepts and support points of view
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with proven experience interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency in PC tools (Microsoft Suite, including: Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to foster relationships and create informal networks, both internal and external

Grade/Level: 10

The salary range for this position is 75,000.00 - 130,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
