Our client, a large construction organization, is seeking an Accountant with construction industry experience to serve as an Assistant Controller. This is an onsite full time employee position in Sacramento, CA. This is a fully benefitted position with our client.
Position Summary:
Our client in the commercial construction industry is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to bridge the gap between office-based accounting operations and field teams. This position offers strong growth potential for candidates ready to step into a leadership role, even if they are not currently Assistant Controllers.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as liaison between field operations and accounting to ensure accurate and timely information flow
Oversee general ledger, budgeting, job costing, and financial reporting processes
Analyze financial data to identify trends and deliver actionable insights to stakeholders
Prepare and present financials in monthly division reviews
Collaborate with leadership to establish and implement financial policies and controls
Supervise and guide the job costing team
Maintain strong relationships across departments and with executive stakeholders
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial construction finance/accounting
Strong proficiency in job costing, general ledger management, budgeting, and financial reporting
Demonstrated ability to work within multi-company environments, including acquired and startup entities
High proficiency with Excel (testing will be part of the interview process)
Clear communication and executive presentation skills
Nice to Have:
Spanish language proficiency
CPA License
Experience with ERP systems, especially eCMS by Computer Guidance Corporation
Additional Notes:
Candidates must have job costing experience at a granular level
Field experience is a plus; this is not a purely office-based accounting role
The client is open to candidates currently in senior accounting roles who are ready to move into an Assistant Controller position
Candidates must be local to the greater Sacramento area as relocation is not offered
