Job Summary

Directs private wealth credit activities for high net worth and ultra high net worth borrowers. Serves as a resource, advisor and subject matter expert to Private Wealth Advisors in serving customers in this segment. Oversees execution of commercial and consumer loans, including documentation, as needed on larger more complex transactions. Implements credit strategy, policies and procedures ensuring soundness, diversification, liquidity and maximum earnings. Oversees commercial loan structuring, appropriate risk based pricing and approvals, underwriting and appraisal activities in coordination with specific support teams and subject matter experts.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Works with Private Wealth Credit Executive, Community, Wholesale and Wealth Services leadership alongside private wealth advisors, to develop and lead the execution of effective strategies to capture new borrowing opportunities with high net worth and ultra high net worth borrowers, emphasizing relationships where exposure is equal to or greater than $5mm.
  • Identifies local market opportunities that are consistent with the strategy of the business and takes appropriate action to capitalize on those opportunities. Develops customized consumer and commercial credit solutions and structures tailored to clients' unique financial goals and needs. Partners with the Credit Risk Management teams to ensure the appropriate level of risk assessments are being performed on all potential high net worth and ultra high net worth borrowers, and that all risks identified are being mitigated in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Serves as a resource on market and banking committees establishing, reviewing and setting policies and procedures. Works with local advisors on the loan request process through all required approval processes, including heavy interaction with the private wealth credit team. Recommends appropriate credit policy adjustments along with 2nd LOD credit team. May maintain loan approval authority.
  • Oversee all Portfolio Management activities in this space including appropriate LOB responsibilities, financial reporting requirements and loan covenant monitoring. Employs established methods or techniques in the analysis of financial data. Uses knowledge of financial data, including history, strengths, and weaknesses, to evaluate potential solutions to situations. Develops, implements, and monitors action plans to ensure the attainment of financial goals. Uses objective financial and business analyses to evaluate the returns and risks of business choices.
  • Analyzes and integrates trends and patterns to determine the root causes of problems and identify solutions. Evaluates short- and long-term implications of decisions. Accurately forecasts growth, costs, and business challenges. Keep designated advisors and market leaders informed of emerging risks and trends in the high net worth and ultra high net worth borrowing space, including internal restrictions and/or limitations on loan activity of any specific type (i.e. luxury items, art, land exposure, etc.). Advises on appropriate pricing strategies aligned to market dynamics and the bank's return targets. Drive loan approval process to include presenting to Synovus Loan Committee as needed.
  • Stays informed about market trends, industry regulations, and best practices in private wealth credit advisory services.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk, Business Administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum Experience:

Ten years of high net worth/ultra high net worth credit experience in loan structuring and approval, credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio management and developing forecasts of portfolio trends, calling on high net worth/ultra high net worth clients; managing large portfolios of complex credit relationships; and experience managing credit teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Skill managing successful relationships with senior executives, regulators, key stakeholders and customers
  • Expert knowledge of loan portfolio analysis and credit review tools and their applications
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state credit regulations
  • Proficiency using word processing and spreadsheet software programs
