What are the responsibilities and job description for the SBA Lender II or III position at Synovus?
Job Summary:
Develops and utilizes strategies for sourcing and generating Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. Responsible for initial underwriting and credit review of prospective loan packages for eligibility and reasonableness prior to submission to Synovus SBA Lending credit area. Works closely with business and commercial bankers on business development efforts and provides training to keep bankers advised of SBA product offering.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generates SBA loans and fee income for the regional banking group. Creates strategies and develops a referral network to solicit SBA loan opportunities. Partners with business and commercial bankers and branch management to develop new SBA business relationships.
- Presents loan products to potential clients that are internally generated from community bank partners or independently sourced. Facilitates the application, structures the SBA loan, prepares initial underwriting and credit packages and works cooperatively with the GGL Department through closing.
- Maintains and applies a thorough understanding of SBA eligibility, policies and structure, bank credit policies, and all necessary business practices to ensure the submission of accurate and complete loan application packages.
- Provides consultative and technical support to internal partners in regard to all SBA programs, including SBA 7a and 504 loans and microloans.
- Provides excellent customer service, ensuring a high degree of responsiveness and technical lending expertise. Resolves issues, responds to questions and follows up with clients in a manner that meets or exceeds expectations.
- Works closely with business and commercial bankers on business development activities and takes a leadership role in assisting assigned markets meet their strategic goals. Expands existing customer relationships through cross-selling products and services.
- Drives revenue growth and net income to meet or exceed production goals, while generating loans that maintain an acceptable level of performance.
- Acts as a leader in developing marketing strategies and conducting promotional activities within the region.
- May assist in training and mentoring lower level product specialist.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum Experience:
- Six years of SBA product sales experience
- Expert knowledge of SBA lending rules, regulations and practice
- Expert knowledge of lending and credit policies
- Advanced understanding of credit and cash flow
- Superior expertise in managing client relationships and developing new business opportunities
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills
- Proficient with Microsoft programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
