What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Chemist position at Synthomer?
The Polymer Chemist position in the Jefferson Hills Process Improvement Team will support the processes at Jefferson Hills, PA, Longview, TX, and Middelburg, Netherlands. This role is responsible for understanding the chemical reactions (catalysis, kinetics, desired reactions, and undesired reactions) in order to lead or support improvement projects that improve yield, quality, and capacity.
The Polymer Chemist is also responsible for advanced troubleshooting not resolved by empirical efforts, leading raw material qualifications, interfacing with the Technology organization to address regulatory and product concerns, and interfacing with the Innovation & Marketing organizations to evaluate the impact of process changes on products and applications.

- Improve and maintain a detailed understanding of reaction kinetics for supported processes at Jefferson Hills, Longview, and Middelburg.
- Provide guidance regarding the impact of process changes on polymer growth.
- Conduct literature searches.
- Lead and participate on multidisciplinary teams to execute technical projects, including laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing scale trials.
- Apply statistical tools effectively (six sigma, design of experiments).
- Provide advanced analytical support, including method development, for the analysis of samples.
