This role serves as a lead for site compliance with various air-related regulatory requirements, including the Title V permit.
The Environmental Engineer supports the SHES Department by managing assigned environmental programs as the subject matter expert.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the site's technical expertise in environmental regulations with a focus on air quality.
- Interact and work with operations, maintenance, engineering, and plant management to maintain environmental compliance. Train operations and maintenance personnel on environmental responsibilities.
- Monitor site performance against permit and other regulatory requirements and identify improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate emissions testing at the site's operating units.
- Prepare compliance certifications and shutdown/breakdown reports.
- Interface with regulatory agencies regarding permitting and compliance.
- Manage the facility's LDAR program.
- Review capital projects to determine regulatory impacts. Assist in design and selection of air pollution control technology for new or modified equipment.
- Represent the Jefferson Site during corporate audits and government inspections.
- Evaluate and perform air emissions calculation estimates.
- Prepare, review, and update environmental metrics and reports.
- Lead and participate in the development and improvement of the site's SHES Management System.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering or science discipline.
- 5 years' experience required. Experience in chemical industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with Federal and State air quality regulations. Experience with Allegheny County Health Department regulations is preferred.
- Availability for off-hours calls/consultations.
- Familiarity with Process & Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, influence others, and coordinate with others to ensure objectives are met.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with both hourly (union) and management employees.
- Proficiency with standard software packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and SAP.
