Job Title: Site Manager
What are we looking for?
The Site Manager position is responsible for leading manufacturing operations of the Mogadore, OH site to ensure the required business objectives are achieved in a safe and environmentally compliant manner under the requirements of Synthomer’s SHE and Manex standards. The position provides vision, leadership, and day-to-day guidance for the production facilities serving a multitude of markets and businesses. The successful candidate must have proven ability to lead and develop a team, drive a culture of operational excellence and customer focus, develop a long-term site vision and supporting strategies and instill industry leading/high performance work practices. This position reports to the Director of Operations, Functional Solutions, North America.
What you’ll own in this role…
- Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day operations to meet demand for internal and external customers in the areas of safety, environment, service, production, manufacturing, inventory management and maintenance.
- Responsible for leadership of site employees and operational performance to deliver key objectives in core values, safety, environment, production, quality, customer satisfaction and productivity.
- Fosters a high-performance work force that is capable of moving quickly, responding to changing environments and driving continuous improvement.
- Mentors and develops employees using Synthomer’s SHE and Manex management systems.
- Develops and implements a vision for the site supported by strategic and annual operating plans that align with business team objectives to drive operational improvements and growth. This includes planning and management of plant costs, capital and capacity.
- Develops strong working relationships with all cross-functional departments including SHE, Manex, research & development, marketing/sales, human resources, sourcing/logistics, supply chain, and finance to ensure support and execution of critical business strategies and goals.
- Effectively integrates product development and commercial goals and activities with manufacturing to ensure on-time, quality product is supplied to the customer.
- Monitors production and labor levels to ensure continued efficiency while anticipating problems and developing contingencies to address deficiencies and plan deviations to ensure plant goals are accomplished.
- Drive LEAN Six Sigma integration and continuously identify ways to reduce plant-operating costs, increase quality and comply with Responsible Care requirements through the incorporation of operational excellence strategies.
What you’ll need to be successful…
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry or related science
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment-overseeing multiple manufacturing and supporting functions and developing employees at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, team building, and advanced coaching skills including the ability to motivate people, assess, select and develop employee skills, and drive organizational culture change.
- Demonstrated interpersonal savvy, persuasion and negotiation skills, and agility to effectively interact with all levels of employees, internal and external customers, vendors and the general public.
- Demonstrated understanding of P&L, balance sheet and other financial tools and the contribution from manufacturing operations
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize safety and balance production and maintenance needs.
- Demonstrated active, visible, vocal proponent and leader of safety and quality systems, practices and requirements for a safe, efficient and effective work environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of project and change management principles in planning, organizing and managing resources to bring about successful completion and adoption of project goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of lean technology and manufacturing excellence processes to enhance process flows and develop operating and tactical plans to improve efficiency, product quality and optimize cost. Previous experience leading and implementing continuous improvement and the use of lean tools is desired.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions to expand margins and profitability.
- Strategic thinker: Able to understand the “big picture” and demonstrated ability to identify indicators of system performance, monitor performance and develop actions to improve or correct performance relative to goals.
Qualifications that can set you apart …
- Knowledge of how to improve a site’s safety culture and associated performance.
- Solid knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and environmental regulations in a specialty chemical operation.
- Knowledge of specialty chemicals; Emulsion polymerization experience desired
- Business acumen
- Knowledge of supply chain management including storage of raw materials, work in process inventory and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption.
- Knowledge and experience in improving plant maintenance work processes and asset reliability.
- Experience in community affairs and relations.
- Experience working in a Unionized environment.
