What are the responsibilities and job description for the Syracuse Urban Fellowship Teacher (2019-2020) position at Syracuse City School District?

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:
The Syracuse City School District is looking to ensure that our faculty better represents the diversity of our student body. We are looking for graduates with a background in and commitment to urban education in the following teaching areas:
- Mathematics
- Science
- English as a New Language (ENL)
- Library Media
- Special Education
- Technology
- Elementary
- Other areas considered
In exchange for a 5-year commitment to teach in the Syracuse City School District, you will receive:
- Full tuition toward a Master’s Degree in Education at Syracuse University
- Starting salary of $48,500
- Additional pay for experience
- Opportunity to earn additional stipend by working in extended learning time school
- Assistance with New York State Teacher Certification Process
- Includes stipend to assist with expense for certification
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Reporting to the principal, the teacher ensures that all their students achieve ambitious academic outcomes. The teacher must effectively:
- Plan data-driven, standards-aligned and differentiated units, lessons and activities;
- Deliver clear, accurate and rigorous lessons with a range of instructional and formative assessment techniques;
- Establish and maintain a supportive, productive and positive learning environment with strong classroom management practices; and
- Monitor and communicate about student progress while engaging in continuous reflection, adjustment and professional development.
- The teacher will perform additional related duties as required.

URBAN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must reside in the city of Syracuse (A generous moving allowance of $1,500 and non-financial housing support is included)
- Must be prepared to teach for a minimum of 5 years in the Syracuse City School District
- You will be expected to teach in September 2019, therefore you must already have completed a teacher preparation program prior to September 2019.
SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- 3.0 Undergraduate GPA
- 3 Letters of Recommendation
- Personal statement regarding career aspirations
- Resume
- Unofficial transcripts
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
- Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
- All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in their subject area, or qualify to obtain it by the first date of employment. This requires at least a Bachelor’s degree. Licensed teachers from other states may qualify for reciprocity.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:
- The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $48,500. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
- Teachers who are assigned to work at schools with extended learning time will receive an additional stipend.
- Teachers will have opportunities to teach in our Summer School Programs, receiving an hourly rate of $42.69.
