What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Diagnostic Technician position at Syracuse Frame & Auto Repair?
Syracuse Frame & Auto Repair is an extension of Syracuse Frame Service and has been under new management since 2023 with the retirement of both of the previous owners. We are a busy automotive repair facility in a stable and growing industry, offering long-term job security. Based just a few blocks from downtown Syracuse. We are a small close knit group looking to add a new member to our team.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Must be skilled specifically in diagnostic testing, smoke testing and knowledgeable in all areas of drivability. Should be familiar with using computerized Snap-on diagnostic equipment and other tools such as Mitchell On Demand to identify issues with a vehicle's engine, transmission, electrical system, steering, suspension, braking, or HVAC system.
- Performing steering, brake and suspension repairs; Repairing or replacing worn parts, such as front-end parts, brake parts, wheel bearings, and sensors. Perform alignments. May also perform additional repairs / service, such as air conditioning services, transmission services, sub frame replacements, differential services and electrical repairs from time to time.
- Performing maintenance; Performing basic care and maintenance on all makes and models, such as changing oil, checking fluid levels, changing and rotating tires.
- Estimating costs; Communicating with the office manager and providing a list of suggested / required services. Providing an estimate of the labor and time it would take to complete the requested automotive repairs.
- Communicating with clients; Explaining automotive problems and repairs to clients if / when requested.
- Documenting work; Keeping records and making reports.
- Maintaining tools and equipment; Maintaining automotive shop equipment you work with, overseeing automotive stocked inventory to the office manager (when low on filters/fluids and general stocked automotive supplies).
- Updating knowledge; Participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications. Advancing with automotive training opportunities and paid classes that are offered.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality vehicle service.
- Road testing vehicles prior to and after servicing to confirm the customer complaints were addressed and the complaint has been successfully completed.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Must have your own tools.
- Must have a valid NY State driver’s license (with clean driving record).
- Must have a NY State Inspector license (or apply for one).
- Must have Experience in Automotive diagnostics.
- Must be able to work both individually and as a team player.
- ASE certified technician preferred.
- **Towing endorsement is helpful but not required.**
