What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Scheduler Ortho Joint Surgeon– Full Time position at Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists?
Work Week: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, Remote after required on-site training.
Job Responsibilities:
Excellent communication and customer service skills as well as organization and time management skills a must. Will adequately prioritize workload and high volume of surgery demands covering primary surgery schedulers time out of the office. Will also assist surgery schedulers and surgical authorizations as needed.
At least two years’ experience in a healthcare setting with medical terminology and strong computer skills.
Must be able to be flexible and produce detailed, accurate work, completing surgical scheduling duties thoroughly. Work includes patient engagement and must be able to document tickets clearly and completely, including routine and urgent add on cases and must be able to work within a team. Completes all PCP and patient letters, rearranging physician surgery days if necessary, to accommodate needs.
Manages difficult or emotional customer situations, on the phone or possibly in person, while displaying courtesy and sensitivity.
Is dependable and always available for Physicians, co-workers and or patients to address surgical situations that arise. Is expected to stay after normal work hours to schedule any add-on cases if necessary, while covering.
Effectively communicates with Physicians, the Hospital, DME dept, Auth staff and/or management regarding MD schedule, OR Block release/use and any patient problems/issues
Efficiently completes the surgery scheduling process for all assigned patient surgeries including all pre-operative and post-operative appointments/needs as applies to the Physician they are covering, including surgeries authorized by w/comp insurance carriers and timely contacts patients regarding surgery times, etc.
Has thorough knowledge of our insurance policies to know where to properly schedule a patient for surgery and to relate any situations regarding billing/referral issues to management. Maintains knowledge and proper use of current billing/ insurance resource materials /emails.
Obtain prior authorization if necessary, on any urgent surgical add-on cases or direct admits and timely communicates appropriately with SOS surgical authorization representative for routine cases.
Follows company policies regarding computer usage, booking of surgeries and documentation thereof.
