Job Description

The Assistant Dean for Advancement for the David B. Falk College of Sport reports to the Dean & the Vice President for Advancement, Academic Programs and Partnerships. The Assistant Dean is responsible for securing significant philanthropic support for the College through the development and execution of the College’s strategies for fundraising and engagement goals and activities. The position comprehensively manages the advancement program and oversees the advancement staff. The Assistant Dean is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major and prospective donors. As a part of Falk’s senior management team, this individual works closely and collaboratively with the Dean and faculty and central Advancement colleagues to achieve a high level of engagement and financial support from alumni, parents, organizations, and friends whose philanthropic priorities match the educational mission and academic programs in the College. This individual also serves as the primary contact and support for the College’s volunteer leadership board(s). Key performance metrics for this position include effective management of the advancement team, face-to-face visits, number and dollar value of solicitations, and meeting the College’s annual new business and larger campaign goals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven (7) plus years of experience in fund-raising work in higher education or a non-profit organization is required.
  • Experience working in support of intercollegiate athletics or professional athletics sales/marketing preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and passport is required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to lead and manage a comprehensive advancement plan.
  • Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including cultivation, successfully soliciting six and seven figure gifts, stewardship, and donor recognition.
  • Expert written and interpersonal communication skills including political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout a complex organization and with external constituencies.
  • Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling cases for support.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit focused on goal achievement.
  • Willingness and availability to travel domestically.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising and engagement strategies and plans in consultation with the Dean of the David B. Falk College of Sport
  • Serve as the College’s chief development officer creating and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations for philanthropic support.
  • Demonstrate accountability to VP for Advancement and to the Dean for executing fundraising plans and driving toward achievement of annual advancement and unit goals.
  • Manage Falk advancement staff, including direct oversight of a Director of Development (major gifts officer), the Director Corporate Partnerships and External Engagement, and a support coordinator.
  • Serve as primary contact and provide oversight to College’s volunteer advisory board(s) identifying, engaging, soliciting, and stewarding past and present board members.
  • Record and maintain updated plans and opportunities for assigned portfolio as well as all other activity relative to donors and prospects.
  • Record results of all solicitations into CITRUS/CRM database including meaningful interactions ensuring the accuracy of all entries.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Falk’s strategic priorities, academic programs, and centers of excellence in order to translate these assets into compelling funding opportunities and align them with donors’ interests.
  • Collaborate with Falk faculty and staff to involve them with alumni engagement and funding opportunities where appropriate.
  • Work with the Falk Budget Office to align gift accounts and operational budget. | Perform other duties as deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions related to this position.
