This role is the lead communications and content strategist for Advancement and External Affairs. The Executive Director ensures that content produced for alumni and donors is aligned with fundraising and engagement goals and divisional / university messaging and priorities. The position leads a team responsible for philanthropic storytelling, gift announcements, acknowledgements, gift proposal creation, and other high-profile content. The role is responsible for executive communications for the Senior Vice President / Chief Advancement Officer as well as gift acknowledgements for cabinet level officers. The incumbent coordinates messages across the organization and partners with communicators in the schools, colleges, and units to develop consistent on-message communications. The incumbent leads the division’s efforts on issues management, media relations, and crisis management, serving as the liaison with the Division of Communications.Education and Experience : Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or other related field.Minimum of ten years’ experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field; experience in higher education setting a plus.Experience with social media and web publishing tools.Skills and Knowledge : Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Proven ability to work with individuals at all levels of an organization, including senior leadership.Excellent ability to collaborate effectively within the division and with other units of the campus community.Experience with content management systems.Experience writing for multiple platforms, including print, digital, and social media.Experience in development / fundraising writing and content strategy.Ability to manage multiple projects on various levels with differing and converging timelines.Results-oriented leader with the ability to develop, communicate, and implement big-picture vision and strategy.Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.Experience with issues management and / or crisis communication.Commitment to and demonstration of promoting an inclusive environment.Responsibilities : Direct content development for the division. Develop and socialize content strategies for key fundraising initiatives and other key divisional goals and lead the execution of those strategies. Develop original content for news stories, feature stories, publications, email, web content, and other materials to support strategic fundraising and donor engagement initiatives. Edit content produced by division communications staff. Train division communications staff on proofing and quality control for all levels of communications. Review outgoing content and provide final approval for enterprise communications.Create executive communications for the CAO / SVP of AEA, including emails, remarks, speeches, presentations, media requests, and other content. Oversee gift announcements required for all gifts of $1 million or more. Lead divisional efforts on issues management, media relations, and crisis management.Oversee the creation of gift proposals and related documentation consistent with university policy, legal requirements, and donor intention. Coordinate interactions with development officers as needed related to proposals. Oversee gift acknowledgements required for all gifts of $1 million or more, including creation, content, processes, approvals, and related documentation.Manage expenditures for communications efforts from the Advancement Communications and Marketing budget against allocation. Anticipate annual needs based on strategic planning and prepare budget recommendations based on projected costs.Application Instructions :
