Job Description
Intramural Sports Coordinator reports to the Associate Director for Intramural Sports & Special Events and manages daily operations of the Intramural Sports program. This position will provide a diverse array of services that will attract participation from a broad spectrum of students and members of the university community.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field.
- Two (2) plus years’ experience working in university recreation programs or related facility.
- One (1) year of experience supervising student employees.
- Knowledge in staff development, positive culture building, and mentoring of student employees.
- Skill in program development, leadership building, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work effectively within an ethnically and culturally diverse community.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organization skills.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
Skills and Knowledge
- Variable work schedule. Evening and weekend work required.
- Primary work schedule during academic year Sunday – Thursday, 2pm-11pm.
- Knowledge of sports scheduling and program budgeting.
- Knowledge of sports rules, facility and equipment needs for intramural sports.
- Sports officiating experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with supervising operations of comprehensive intramural program including team sports, individual sports and special events.
- Interact with program participants.
- Provide onsite supervision for intramural activities, particularly major team sports (basketball, soccer, football, and volleyball).
- Enforce established policies and procedures relating to intramural participation.
- Resolve sporting behavior and disciplinary issues. Assist with implementing risk management and customer service plans. Coordinate Emergency Action Plans while on duty.
- Assist with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, developing and evaluating 70 student employees working in the intramural program.
- Create, encourage and support professional development opportunities for student staff including training programs, professional association involvement, research, conferences and individual mentoring.
- Create interactive quizzes and presentations to educate and train team leaders in their responsibilities.
- Process payroll for intramural program accurately and within established timelines and guidelines.
- Assist with management of intramural budget in accordance with university and departmental policies.
- Research and purchase equipment and supplies. Accurately forecast, track and record expenditures.
- Manage IM Leagues web-based scheduling and participant registration program for intramural activities.
- Maintain accurate program information for departmental website.
- Assist with implementing and assessing policies and procedures.
- Assist with assessing programs and services by collecting data relating to program operations, participation numbers, and participant satisfaction and learning.
- Assist with summer programs and supervision of recreation facilities and programs.
