Job Description

The College of Law is seeking a part-time instructor to teach one Summer 2025 section of Legal Communications & Research II in its JDInteractive program, with the possibility of teaching additional online sections in the core first-year writing program in subsequent terms. LCR II is a three-credit course that introduces students to legal research, and then provides instruction in persuasive writing and oral argument.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have an excellent academic record and should hold a JD degree from an accredited law school.
  • Preferred post-JD experience and credentials should include at least a decade of significant legal practice in diverse areas of law.
  • Teaching experience and a demonstrated commitment to excellent classroom teaching are required.
  • Candidates should the demonstrated ability to work in a diverse community.

Job Specific Qualifications

Substantial experience with different forms of legal writing, communication, and research is required. Substantial experience supervising attorneys and interns in their writing and legal research is also required. Formal training in education and pedagogy is required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach predictive legal writing; the elements of the U.S. legal system and legal citation; legal research; persuasive writing; and oral argument.

Responsibilities

  • Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Prepare lectures, projects and other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to the College of Law and University regulations.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
